Adult Acne Cysts

Adult Acne Cysts

Adult acne is a common type of acne that affects 25 percent of all adult men and 50 percent of adult women at some point in their adult lives. Just like the other types of acne, it can vary from mild to severe usually characterized by the appearance of pimples, blackheads, and cysts.

Speaking of adult acne cysts, it is worth noting that adult acne cysts are actually the result of bacterial infection of cysts itself deep within the skin. For simple explanation, the adult acne cysts, as opposed to blackheads and whiteheads, are generally large inflamed lesions that are filled with pus. They typically develop when the contents of a clogged pore seeps into the skin, therefore producing a significant local immune response. It may appear similar to a nodule, but adult acne cysts are just pus-filled and commonly described as having a diameter of 5mm or more across. Adult acne cysts are just a sign of severe acne that it can be very painful. It can in fact cause permanent scarring as its usual outcome.

There are actually several ways of lessening swelling due to adult acne cysts as well as to prevent scarring. But before anything else, it is first very necessary to note that perhaps the best way to treat and prevent adult acne cysts from forming is not to squeeze or pick the lesions since it may only cause a deeper infection and more painful inflammation, which will last much longer than if you had left it alone. Well, adult acne cysts are commonly treated with oral and topical antibiotics for without these treatments, the adult acne cysts may result in severe scarring that will last for a lifetime.

The treatment of moderate to severe, cystic adult acne often relies on antibiotherapy for he purpose of eradicating as much as possible microorganisms like the Propionibacterium spp that has been colonizing the sebaceous follicles in the skin. Aside from this method of treating the adult acne cysts, certain bacterial resistances against certain antibiotics have emerged just recently.

With its emergence, many medical professionals have noted that both the antibiotic and its administration modalities should be greatly considered in order to control the risk of having adult acne cysts. To mention, there are some oral minocyclines out there that can be used as one of the anti-acneic therapies. And, there is Elicina, a skin generator and topical antibacterial alternative for mild adult acne cysts. This treatment is now used along with oral antibiotics or with Accutane when the adult acne cysts are on its acute stage.
